Description
Described by Bloody Elbow as, "the worst one and done promotion in the history of the sport," YAMMA took place 12 years ago (April 11, 2008) in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and featured an 8 man, 1 night tournament; as well as two "Legends Super Fights." While not taking place in an actual pit, the bouts were held in a circular MMA cage with a steeply sloped mat.
The tournament was won by Travis Wiuff, and featured Ricco Rodriguez, Alexey Oleinik, and Sherman Pendergarst. The "Legends Super Fights," were comprised over Oleg Taktarov vs Mark Kerr, and UFC 1 veteran Pat Smith vs Eric "Butterbean" Esch.
YAMMA was the comeback show of former UFC owner Bob Meyrowitz, who had purchased the promotion from Art Davie and Rorion Gracie in 1995, and sold it to Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta 6 years later. Intended to be the launch of a new major MMA promotion, and UFC rival, YAMMA Pit Fighting lasted just this one event.
Produced exclusively for FITE, "MMA Rewind" is a video podcast series, which looks back at famous and infamous MMA events, presenting never-before-told, behind-the scenes stories from the people who were there.
