Since the inception of the BIG3 in 2017, the Ball Hogs have been a consistent presence, yet postseason success has remained elusive. The 2021 season proved to be another disappointing chapter, concluding with a 3-5 record. In 2022, fate continued to evade the Ball Hogs' favor.
Leandro Barbosa emerged as an unstoppable force in 2021, sparking hope that he could spearhead a turnaround for the Ball Hogs. Unfortunately, his season was abruptly cut short due to a devastating injury in Week 5, derailing the team's progress. Despite possessing considerable talent, they limped to a league-worst 1-5 record, failing to showcase their true potential.
The impending return of Barbosa in 2023, even at a fraction of his former self, holds the key to the Ball Hogs finally breaking into the postseason. The addition of Jeff Ayres, a skilled center capable of dominating the paint on both ends of the floor, further bolsters their chances. Additionally, the versatile swingman DaJuan Summers brings a well-rounded skill set, solidifying the team's roster.
Last season's truth still resonates: With Barbosa leading the charge on the court and the return of the immensely knowledgeable and passionate head coach, Rick Barry, this could undoubtedly be the year when the Ball Hogs shatter their postseason barriers. The stage is set for a transformative journey, as the Ball Hogs navigate the path towards long-awaited breakthrough and embrace the possibilities that lie ahead.
